Notes: For years, masses of people have been flocking to the corner of 53rd and 6th to satisfy their hunger with the best meal in NYC. Some people call it the "Platter" while others know it as "Chicken and Rice", the "Chicken Guy" or the "Gyro Spot." Part of the secret to this delicious meal is in the white sauce. Nobody knows what it is, but everybody knows to ask for lots of it.
The best gyro you will ever have... nothing better than waiting on line, watching the city life, buy your gyro, sit on the bench, eat it hot. ADVICE: Get two, one to eat there, one to take home.

the mix plate is the best plate that could satisfy any hunger, because its a plate of yellow rice, chicken, gyro and salad with some white sauce and hot sauce and barbcue. really tasty and cheap for only $6.00 but dont get confused with the morning cart because the halal guys start selling at 7pm to 5am on 53rd and 6th avenu in front of the hilton. the guys that work in the morning are scammers so you better watch out

I love this place and used to go a lot a few years back. However since it's popularity continues to rise, everytime I try to go there the lines are so ridiculous. I took my BF here for his first time and waited an hour in a blizzard at 12 midnight. Took us an hour to drive back home to Brooklyn but he agreed with me that this was the best gyro platter he's ever had. My college buddies and I would drive into the city on random night just to have it!

Tired of waiting on line?

I've been going here for about 2 years now, and I'm happy that they finally opened another stand, right across the street. It's funny cause I still see 30 - 40 people waiting on the long line across the street, meanwhile the new stand only had about 2 or 3 people in the line. The food is the same, the people are the same. I've seen mustafa there serving the food as well so I know it's the same guys. I love that I haven't had to wait for over an hour anymore.

I went there for the first time a few months ago. I asked my friend what to order, and he told me "The Universal Platter". I didnt know that my friend was making a joke, and thought this was something well known to the C&R community. So when the guy accepting money asked what I wanted, I told him "the universal platter". He looked at me condescendingly and asked again in a harsh, disrespectful tone what I wanted and made it clear not to waste their time and that I should have my order decided by the time I reach the front of the line. Not realizing I ordered something from the imagination of my friend, I replied "the universal platter, chicken and rice with lettuce and tomatoes". I got the food after a little bit and it was great but I almost didnt want to go back there ever again because of that horrible experience. When you have a line of like 100 hungry people behind you and have the vendor (or at least the guy taking the $) yelling at you in front of them, its not too nice. Kinda traumatizing. I know they dont have time to waste but that doesnt mean they should behave like theyre all that and a bag of chips. I think it was just that one guy though with his pessimistic and aggressive countenance, as opposed to the cooks who seemed happy to be there. At least the second time I went back the same thing didnt happen as I knew to be very specific about what I'm ordering. I havent been back since then.

This was by far the best food I had when I went to New York... For the 7 days I was there, the line was always about 30-40 people long, but I got lucky as I watched the line get short for a few minutes from the Hotel Warwick... Got the combo, $6.00, a lot of white sauce and a lot of RED SAUCE... the Heartburn was worth it... definitely will be going back there when I go back to Manhattan...

Please forget the cart on 53rd and 6th. If you are willing to take a little walk, go to 62nd and Madison. I promise every one of you, you will never experience chicken and rice like this. The healthiest, cleanest and best chicken and rice around. This guy used to own and operate a restaurant and closed it to run this cart. Just check it out.

I said OK, but only to taste something before getting my same 'ole sandwich. Holy Cow Batman! What a great lunch I had!! I kept on eating and eating! What great food!!! Hopefully, Babar will make this a weekly visit!!

I really don't know what people are raving about. They do have good food, but it's not great or the best. They have been around the longest, so they are well known. But once you get past the brand and actually compare the food against other vendors they really don't offer much.

When you are in NYC and feel hungry, then this is the best fast food you can ever have and at the same time, it's not junk food that you pay for more in stupid McDonald's. It's a rich meal and really cheap especially when you talk about NYC. The secret of this place is not the taste as many can imitate it but it's about the quality. They serve the best quality meat in street food.
